Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice @ Taste Enclave, Avenue K

Thursday, February 27, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

Another great time joining Jackson and other foodies for food tasting at Taste Enclave, Avenue K. I have not been to Avenue K for quite some time and this place is having more new shops and restaurants openings. Pretty exciting to check out this new eatery place and my first review for food court area. Taste Enclave is just another concept that combines all well known street stall gather under one roof.

Here have the famous Pudu' Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice. Established in 1985 by Madam Heun May Lan, they are using the traditional charcoal cooking method when preparing claypot chicken rice. The secret recipe here is they actually applying ‘2 heats’ cooking method derive from years of perfection. The ‘1st heat’ which is cooking the rice slowly from the bottom and ‘2nd heat’ which she uses a iron lid with burning charcoal on top of the claypot to cooked the marinated chicken. The double heat systems ensures the chicken meat is juicy and more fragrant.
Once the pot of rice started boiling and the stock has partially seeped into the rice, the claypot is covered and hot glowing charcoal are then heaped on top of the lid. This method of “double heat” from top and bottom is Heun Kee’s signature process… the bi-directional heat locks in the juices and flavours from the marinated chicken as well as creating that layer of charred rice at the bottom of the pot. - See more at: http://pureglutton.com/heun-kee-in-pudu-awesome-claypot-chicken-rice#sthash.fGj1ruR2.dpu

Varieties menu available here

Valuable set that comes with soup and vegetables
Soup of the day - Cha Choi Soup with chicken feet, red dates, tomatoes and pork meat.Cha choi is a preserved vegetable that are naturally taste salty . I recommend trying this, very appetizing and delicious. The soup choices will rotates daily and depends on availability. You can expect a big serving of the soup.

Preparing the fried seafood taufu

Seafood Taufu - The seafood taufu is served hot, soft beancurd is mixed with seafood and deep fried till crispy on the outside. The best part is the great combination with the homemade chilli sauce and the mayonnaise.

Charcoal Claypot Chicken Rice  - Traditional one pot meal, with fluffy rice, and flavorful marinated chicken meat, adding with slices of waxed sausages (lap cheong), and salted fish .Aromatic and balance amount of the dark soy mixture that covers up the whole claypot chicken rice. I enjoy the layers of the burnt crack rice on the bottom and do remember to stir well while it is still hot. Need preparation time of 20 minutes for the pot of 2-3 person serving and i think it is worth waiting. I highly recommend to add on garlic (which have been mixed with some drops of vinegar) to punch up the taste of the chicken rice.

Fried chicken wing - Next we try on the side dish. The chicken wing is deep fried, crispy and the meat is tenderly soft, but i find it quite oily and the food presentation could be better.

Claypot 'Lap Mei'-Served with Chinese waxed duck and waxed sausages - Tribute to slow-cooking charcoal stove and close monitoring that makes this Lap Mei rice fragrant and taste awesome. The 'Lap Mei' is a seasonal dish that is only available from Nov- March and imported from Hong Kong.

The Thai Taufu is just taste average to my liking. Crispy taufu skin layered with generous portions of the peanuts and homemade chili sauce.

Million Restaurant @ Jalan Ipoh Kuala Lumpur

My dad suggested to dine in at Restorant Million @ Jalan Ipoh..I am looking at my hubby..where is this place? How come i never heard it before?? My dad said this restaurant is here for ages and have passed through several generations. Famous for their hot claypot porridge and during lunch time the whole restaurant is crowded and no place to sit!. Wow.!!.

My dad is quite regular here but the price is slightly more expensive They are really giving the good quality of the pork rib porridge. Located beside the star shuttle ticket counter and along the roadside..i really never observed this place at all. Old fashioned restaurant just like those old kopitiam with classic signboard. My dad ordered this Kung Pou Sotong, pork rib porridge, chicken meat with bitter gourd and vegetables.I bring my two kids along and yes no air conditioning dining place for them..but i do enjoy the environment..most important is the food quality is there for us to enjoy.

This is definitely my favourite -  Stir Fry Chicken with bitter gourd and fermented black beans. Classic felt like home -cooked food with tantalizing taste. Thumbs UP!

Mixed fresh seafood with vegetables..amazingly delicious

The pork rib porridge tastes so good!! Smooth texture and this big pot can be shared for 4 person servings.

Simple and satisfactory vege to balance up our meal.
Surely will visit again

Bavarian Bierhaus @ Wisma UOA, Kuala Lumpur

Thursday, February 20, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

We have a a wonderful porkalicious dinner at Bavarian Bierhaus which serves Mediterranean and German food and their main concept is "ALWAYS THINK FOOD". Located at Wisma UOA in the busy city center, here attracts mainly office workers who love hanging around here during happy hour while enjoying the pork delicacies. Greeted with welcome by the staff and the place is cozy and comfortable with dim lights.

We begin our gastronomic journey by enjoying the Bavarian Pork Salad (RM 24)  first. Serving of the grilled pork escalope with green salad and bavarian mustard, cherry tomatoes and some cheese seasoned with olive oil . I love the glazing crispy bacon on top of the salad, healthy appetizer before entering our main course.

Mix Sausage Platter RM 82 ( for 2 pax) - Drooling seeing those sausages, the mixture of emmenthaler sausage, thueringer, pork frankfurter, and neurberger sausage. The emmenthaler sausage is delicious and succulent in flavours. The sausages is very juicy and taste greater with 4 choices of the sauces paprika Mayo and garlic mayo, roasted garlic mayo, German curry ketchup, and mustard . This platter also comes with grill bacon and sautéed potatoes. Awesome!

Knuckle Thyme RM 80 - Served with pan charred hungarian sausages, tangy mouthful sauerkraut sauteed potatoes with green pea and add on with savoury cherry brandy plum sauces. Aromatic, bringing it to a journey of crisp porky dish. The pork knuckle skin is extremely crispy and the meat fall of the bone easily. Not to mention the meat itself is delicate, juicy and tender. Huge portion and can be shared among three person.

A good knuckle, cooked Bavarian-style, have the perfect mix of crunchy crackling and cut easy.
Italian Tiramisu RM 18 - Lovely food presentation of the Italian Tiramisu, first time having this desserts. I usually thought Tiramisu will have lots of the cream serving. Surprisingly, the Tiramisu is the soft type with loads of cocoa powder flowing at the base when we scoop it. Served with mascarpone cheese, lady finger, coffee &  grappa and cocoa powder. Grappa is a type of Italian brandy that is distilled made from residue of grapes after pressing in winemaking. Italian tiramisu is the perfect desserts choices for sweet tooth and for coffee lovers too. Delicious gourmet treats to tempt you and i really missing the taste now.

The strong coffee taste slowly melting inside my mouth

Set lunch available from Monday to Friday at RM 25++ with different choices of the main course and complete with appetizer + desserts of the day.

Thanks to Mr. Sam for the scrumptious meal and if you are looking for porky meal, come down here to discover the mouth-watering menu with reasonable price and pair with many types of wine and beer offered here. Satisfactory meal while enjoying the night view.

Tom, Dick & Harry's Live @ Pavilion @ Mou Man Tai

Friday, February 14, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

TOM DICK & HARRY’s Live at Pavilion..new place for me which i think i was the last person who try this place when we are figure out where is our next spot for lunch. My collegue keep asking me are you sure you never been there and try their set lunch?? Yes..i always pass by and just peep inside looking at the live band performance area only..Oppss.. So we went to pavilion for their set lunch and just reach at 12.30..the place is almost full, we are seated at the corner side. Nice impressive decoration and interior with wooden furniture, dim lightings, love seeing those boards with 'Mou Man Tai' (Attitude) wordings everywhere.
The set lunch is only RM 18 nett price comes with a main course (choices of Taste Fried Fish (using dory fish), One Foot Long (long sausages), pork chop, Olio Olio (spagethii), and The Bird Thigh ( something like the rosemary roasted chicken), soft drinks and soups or desserts. The mushroom is delicious with thick and creamy texture and enjoy it with the crispy garlic bread. I ordered the Fried Fish.. The food presentation impressed me much, with the fresh dory fish topped with tomato salsa, sweet sourness taste just the right combination with the fish and the rice. Awesome. The portion is just nice for one person serving for a light lunch.

But we need to wait for more than 20 minutes for our meal to be served. Enjoy the meal here, with reasonable price and i guess service can be improve as during lunch time , they really need to be more efficient in serving the customers. Absolutely a great place for pub, beers and live music.

Limablas @ Jalan Mesui, Kuala Lumpur

Thursday, February 13, 2014 3 Comments A+ a-

We are thinking for a better place to have lunch and my colleague just suggested we shall try Nyonya Food today. They have been here twice, the food is good with reasonable price and appropriate portion in a lovely dining environment. LimaBlas is located at Jalan Mesui, (along Jalan Nagasari). Here we can find authentic  basic comfort food of BABA/NYONYA cuisine! Pork free and surely the place to be for quick lunch. This place is really special with vintage interior. The entrance is with bright blue colours, with the old design of the windows, adding on with some bright colours of the chairs.Feels like stepping into one of the Malacca Nyonya Restaurant..

Every corner is eye catching and i walk around closely to take some pictures. Very interesting to figure out those unique display especially the dining tables and chairs. Not to mention the rattan baby chair which i like it so much. Even the huge chalk boards makes me think of past old school time.

There are old shop signage, old rusty furniture with some modern touch up here and there, wall paintings, brick walls on the side, huge jar and the lights bulb.

Can't stop myself taking a snap of their toilet. With great design and photo frame with oldies pictures.

Found this really special antique cheque paymasters??. Wow amazing

First time seeing this antique cash register

The dining place is very comfortable, warm welcome by the staff and we are just sitting there admiring the whole place. Bringing back my old memories when i was in my grandparents house in Teluk Intan, especially the old bicycles.Nostalgic memories running in my mind now while enjoying the chinese new year song.

Peranakan Ginger - Healthy drinks, with refreshing ginger taste. Definitely good choice

Cendol - the portion is just nice to start off our meal. Both the cendol and ABC are served in a very traditional type of bowl, adding Gula Melaka that makes this desserts taste so good. Must try!

ABC in small bowl with fine shave ice

Nyonya Curry Chicken - Aromatic dish with tender and soft chicken meat. I do prefer on the thicker side of the gravy and not spicy enough for my taste bud.

Cencaluk Omelette - Taste good but a little bit salty with minimal taste of the cencaluk.

Pongteh Chicken

Asam stringray - Five of us love this dish so much. The gravy is so appetizing with sweet and sour taste of the asam flavours. Stingray is fresh and absorb fully of the asam gravy. Great to pair it with a hot steaming bowl of rice.Highly Recommended!

Kangkung Belacan - Crunchy and mild spiciness. Will be great if add on more sambal belacan perhaps
Heritage place to chill out here and have a taste of the rarely found Peranakan cuisine. Check this interesting place at:-
